Financial Support for
Speech Therapy Services
It can be confusing trying to navigate what financial support you can access for speech therapy services. There are several different ways to access financial support to cover some or all of your speech therapy sessions, and your local GP or paediatrician may be able to assist and support you in sourcing several of these:
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Thinking Out Loud Speech Pathology offers speech services to children and adults who are plan managed or self-managed and have funding allocated under the support category, 'Improved Daily Living'. You will need to contact the NDIA to determine eligibility for an NDIS plan. Click here for more information.
Private Health Insurance Funds
Check with your individual fund first to see if you have ‘extras’ cover for speech therapy. If you are entitled to a rebate, the fund may reimburse a certain amount of your speech therapy fee. We will provide you with a receipt following each appointment, which you can take to your Private Health Insurance Fund.
Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP)
Formerly known as an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, a CDMP is provided by a GP and entitles an eligible person to 5 rebated allied health sessions per calendar year. You can use the CDMP plan for 5 individual speech therapy appointments and will be rebated a certain amount per visit by Medicare. The current rebate will be processed once your account has been paid in full. Click here for more information about CDMP.
Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) for Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders and eligible disabilities
Medicare rebates are available on a total of 20 sessions for individuals under the age of 25 diagnosed with a complex neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD). Assessment and treatment can be provided by a number of eligible allied health professionals under this initiative, including speech pathologists.
